Management of conflict - JSS2 Home economics Lesson Note
Conflict can be managed and resolved in the following ways;
- Dialogue/negotiation
- Compromise
- Mediation
- Litigation/through the court of law
- Through family heads or village heads
- Avoidance of conflict
1) Dialogue/negotiation
This has to do with the two parties involved in the conflict coming together, using dialogue to facilitate settlement. This negotiation could be made through the representatives of both parties. At the end, a consensus is reached.
2) Compromise
Here both parties give pm the matter that brings about conflict, strike a balance, hence the matter with end up with “no victory, no vanquish” I.e no winner no loser.
3) Mediation
Here a third party act as a peacemaker between the two opposing parties to bring about peace. For instance, conflicts between two countries are usually mediated by the united nation organization (UNO). Besides, African union (AU) mediates in conflict between members.
4) Litigation/through the court of law
Managing crisis through litigation should typically be a last resort, as it can often increase tensions and strain relationships further. Some steps to follow are; assess the situation, seek legal advice, consider alternatives, prepare emotionally, etc.
