Meaning and definition of pressure group - SS1 Government Lesson Note

A pressure group is an organized group of people who come together to influence government policies or decisions. They usually have a specific interest or goal in mind and seek to achieve it through lobbying, protests, or other forms of activism.

These groups are different from political parties because they do not seek to hold political power themselves. Instead, they aim to influence those who do hold power by putting pressure on them through various means, such as lobbying government officials, organizing demonstrations or boycotts, or using the media to promote their cause.

Pressure groups can range from small, local groups to large, national organizations, and they can focus on a wide range of issues, such as human rights, environmental protection, or business interests. They can also have different levels of influence, depending on their resources and the level of public support for their cause.
