Method of Propagation - SS1 Agriculture Lesson Note
Cocoa is primarily propagated through seeds or cuttings. Seeds are extracted from ripe cocoa pods, fermented, and then sown in nurseries. Once the seedlings are strong enough, they are transplanted to the main field. Cuttings can also be used, where healthy shoots are taken from established cocoa trees and planted directly into the soil.
Tea is commonly propagated from seeds, cuttings, or clonal methods. Seeds are collected from mature tea plants and germinated in nurseries. Cuttings involve taking healthy shoots from established tea plants and planting them directly. Clonal propagation is done through tissue culture, which ensures genetic uniformity.
Coffee is propagated mainly through seeds. Ripe coffee cherries are pulped, and the seeds (coffee beans) are extracted, dried, and then sown in nurseries. Once the seedlings are ready, they are transplanted to the field.
