Consumer Protection Council (CPC):

Meaning: The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) is a regulatory body in Nigeria established by the Consumer Protection Council Act, CAP C25, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. It is charged with protecting consumers' rights, investigating consumer complaints, and ensuring that businesses comply with relevant consumer protection laws and standards.

Role: The CPC educates consumers about their rights, conducts investigations into consumer complaints, mediates disputes between consumers and businesses, and enforces consumer protection laws. It also collaborates with other regulatory agencies to ensure the safety and quality of goods and services in Nigeria.

 

National Communication Commission (NCC):

Meaning: The National Communication Commission (NCC) is the regulatory authority for the telecommunications industry in Nigeria. It was established by the Nigerian Communications Act of 2003 to regulate the provision of telecommunications services, protect the interests of consumers, and promote fair competition in the telecommunications sector.

Role: The NCC regulates the licensing, operation, and quality of telecommunications services in Nigeria. It ensures that telecommunications operators comply with regulations regarding pricing, quality of service, consumer rights, and competition. The NCC also handles consumer complaints related to telecommunications services and takes enforcement actions against non-compliant operators.

 

Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON):

Meaning: The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) is a governmental agency responsible for developing, promoting, and enforcing standards for products and services in Nigeria. It was established by the Standards Organization of Nigeria Act No. 14 of 2015 to ensure the quality, safety, and reliability of goods and services available to consumers.

Role: SON develops and adopts standards for various products and services, conducts quality assurance activities, certifies products that meet established standards, and enforces compliance with regulatory requirements. It plays a crucial role in protecting consumers from substandard and counterfeit products, promoting fair trade practices, and enhancing the competitiveness of Nigerian products in domestic and international markets.
