Renewable Energy - JSS1 Basic science Lesson Note
Meaning: Renewable energy comes from natural sources that are constantly replenished, such as sunlight, wind, water, and geothermal heat. It's called "renewable" because these sources are essentially inexhaustible.
Examples: Solar power, wind energy, hydropower (from rivers and oceans), biomass (energy from organic materials), and geothermal energy.
Uses: Renewable energy is used to generate electricity, heat water, power vehicles, and more. It's environmentally friendly and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Misuse: While renewable energy sources are generally considered cleaner than fossil fuels, there can still be environmental impacts from large-scale projects like hydroelectric dams or biomass plantations. Over-reliance on certain types of renewable energy, such as biofuels, can also lead to deforestation and other ecological issues if not managed sustainably.
