Soil Pollution - JSS1 Physical and Health Education Lesson Note
Soil pollution involves the contamination of soil with harmful substances that affect its quality and the organisms living in it.
Causes of Soil Pollution:
Industrial Activities: Factories release pollutants like heavy metals and chemicals into the soil.
Agricultural Activities: The use of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers introduces harmful chemicals.
Waste Disposal: Improper disposal of household and industrial waste leads to soil contamination.
Oil Spills: Accidental spills during extraction, transport, and storage of oil can pollute soil.
Mining Activities: Extraction of minerals can release toxic substances into the soil.
Deforestation: Removing trees exposes soil to erosion and degradation.
